Victor Fagon Côte de Nuits-Villages is primarily sourced from old vines (averaging 55 years of age) located within the Côte de Nuits-Villages appellation, an exclusive US-only label from the renowned Maison Bertrand Ambroise. The name honours winemaker François Ambroise's son, Victor, and Guy-Crescent Fagon, the legendary doctor to Louis XIV who famously prescribed the wines of Nuits-Saint-Georges for the King’s health. This vintage is a blend of 100% Pinot Noir. The estate, based in Premeaux-Prissey, has been certified organic since 2013, with the fruit being 100% destemmed and undergoing long, slow fermentations to achieve the deep colour and concentration for which the Ambroise family is known. It was aged in French oak barrels to harmonize its robust structure with its intense fruit profile.
Tasting Notes:
Bright and expressive, with dark red highlights. The nose reveals ripe red and black fruit aromas, complemented by subtle spicy notes. On the palate, the wine is generous and structured, with succulent red cherry fruit, well-integrated oak and smooth, fine tannins. A ripe, balanced and characterful wine from well-sited vineyards in the villages of Corgoloin and Comblanchien, offering excellent value and depth.
Serving Suggestion:
Pairs best with robust dishes such as roasted duck or goose, beef bourguignon, mushroom risotto and cheese dishes.
