Domaine Fourrier Gevrey-Chambertin Vieilles Vignes 2022 is primarily sourced from dedicated parcels of old vines (averaging over 60 years of age) located within the Gevrey-Chambertin appellation in the northern Côte de Nuits. This cuvée represents a blend of several high-quality climates, drawing fruit from approximately three hectares of vines split between sandy soils at the bottom of the village for elegance and clay-heavy plots below the Grands Crus for power. This vintage is a blend of 100% Pinot Noir. The estate is managed with a philosophy of minimal intervention, and this cuvée is crafted with the same meticulous attention to terroir as the domaine's iconic premier crus, utilizing 100% de-stemmed fruit and avoiding racking to preserve natural CO2. It was aged in French oak barrels (with a very low proportion of new oak, typically around 10–20%) to preserve its fresh, vibrant fruit character.

This is one of the great estates of this famous village. Jean-Marie Fourrier has had a huge impact on the development of the domaine since he took over from his father in the mid 1990s. Purity and clarity of style are the hallmarks here, with an essence of exuberance, but somehow also restrained fruit showing how Burgundy can be so intense yet delicate.

Tasting Notes:

These wines are juicy and charming in youth though always age worthy. Delicate, perfumed and intense. And true to form, here in 2022, we are presented with a wine which is high-toned, lifted, and superbly pure. This Gevrey-Chambertin Vieilles Vignes shows pretty red-fruit aromas, backed by perfumed sweet spice and that classic Gevrey-Chambertin steely minerality.

Pairs best with robust dishes such as roast duck or slow-cooked lamb shanks, mushroom risotto and cheese dishes.
