Chateau Mouton Rothschild Pauillac 2020 is primarily sourced from dedicated parcels of vines (averaging over 40 years of age) located within the Pauillac appellation in the northern Médoc. This cuvée represents a blend of several high-quality climates, drawing fruit from approximately 90 hectares of vines growing on magnificent deep gravelly soils with stones that provide an exceptional combination of heat retention and drainage. This vintage is a blend of 84% Cabernet Sauvignon, 13% Merlot, 2% Cabernet Franc, and 1% Petit Verdot. The estate is managed with a philosophy of minimal intervention, and this cuvée is crafted with the same meticulous attention to terroir as the world's most sought-after wines, utilizing precision viticulture and a stunning wood-framed vat room to ensure the gentlest possible handling of the fruit. It was aged in French oak barrels (100% new oak) to preserve its fresh, vibrant fruit character and highlight the power and legendary opulence typical of its origin.
This is one of the five First Growths and most iconic estates of this famous village. The Rothschild family has had a huge impact on the development of the domaine since 1853, leading the transition to a philosophy where ''Mouton does not change.'' Purity and clarity of style are the hallmarks here, with an essence of exuberance, but somehow also restrained fruit showing how Pauillac can be so intense yet remarkably sophisticated.
Tasting Notes:
These wines are juicy and charming in youth though always age worthy. Aristocratic, aromatic and intense. And true to form, here in 2020, we are presented with a wine which is high-toned, lifted, and superbly pure. This Chateau Mouton Rothschild shows pretty blackberry, crème de cassis, graphite, and toasted spice aromas, backed by perfumed cigar box, licorice, and that classic Pauillac powerful, mineral-driven tension. Full-bodied with tight, velvet-like tannins and a complex flavour profile with an exceptionally long, soaring finish.
Serving Suggestion:
Pairs best with robust dishes such as roast lamb or chicken, venison and beef. Earthy dishes of mushroom risotto, hearty pasta and hard, aged cheeses.
