Chateau Langoa Barton Saint Julien 2020 is primarily sourced from dedicated parcels of vines (averaging over 35 years of age) located within the Saint-Julien appellation in the central Médoc. This cuvée represents a blend of several high-quality climates, drawing fruit from approximately 25 hectares of vines growing on magnificent gravelly soils with a clay-and-sand subsoil, which provide an exceptional combination of heat retention and drainage. This vintage is a blend of 53.5% Cabernet Sauvignon, 38% Merlot, and 8.5% Cabernet Franc. The estate is managed with a philosophy of minimal intervention, and this cuvée is crafted with the same meticulous attention to terroir as the world's most sought-after wines, utilizing traditional viticulture and the state-of-the-art facilities shared with sister estate Léoville Barton to ensure the gentlest possible handling of the fruit. It was aged in French oak barrels (with a proportion of new oak) to preserve its fresh, vibrant fruit character and highlight the elegant, balanced structure typical of its origin.

This is one of the most historic and beloved estates of this famous village. The Barton family has had a huge impact on the development of the domaine since 1821, maintaining a steadfast commitment to the classic style of the region. Purity and clarity of style are the hallmarks here, with an essence of elegance, but somehow also restrained fruit showing how Saint-Julien can be so intense yet incredibly poised.

Tasting Notes:

These wines are juicy and charming in youth though always age worthy. Refined, aromatic and intense. And true to form, here in 2020, we are presented with a wine which is high-toned, lifted, and superbly pure. This Chateau Langoa Barton shows pretty crème de cassis, wild raspberry, pencil shavings, and violet aromas, backed by perfumed forest floor, sweet spice, and that classic Saint-Julien polished, gravelly minerality. Full-bodied with firm, seamless tannins and a complex flavour profile with a long, stately finish.

Serving Suggestion:

Pairs best with robust dishes such as roast lamb or chicken, grilled steak and beef. Earthy dishes of mushroom risotto, hearty pasta and hard, aged cheeses.
