Chateau Labegorce Margaux 2022 is primarily sourced from dedicated parcels of vines (averaging over 30 years of age) located within the Margaux appellation in the southern Médoc. This cuvée represents a blend of several high-quality climates, drawing fruit from approximately seventy hectares of vines situated on a complex mosaic of silt-heavy gravel and sandy soils, which provide a distinctive combination of structural richness and aromatic finesse. This vintage is a blend of 50% Cabernet Sauvignon, 45% Merlot, 3% Cabernet Franc, and 2% Petit Verdot. The estate is managed with a philosophy of minimal intervention, and this cuvée is crafted with the same meticulous attention to terroir as the Perrodo family's neighboring estates, utilizing precision viticulture and temperature-controlled concrete and stainless steel vats. It was aged in French oak barrels (with a proportion of new oak, typically around 40%) to preserve its fresh, vibrant fruit character.
This is one of the great estates of this famous village. The Perrodo family has had a huge impact on the development of the domaine since they reunited the historic Labégorce lands, restoring the property to its former glory as one of Margaux's most consistent over-performers. Purity and clarity of style are the hallmarks here, with an essence of exuberance, but somehow also restrained fruit showing how Margaux can be so intense yet delicate.
Tasting Notes: These wines are juicy and charming in youth though always age worthy. Delicate, perfumed and intense. And true to form, here in 2022, we are presented with a wine which is high-toned, lifted, and superbly pure. This Chateau Labegorce shows pretty black cherry, blackberries, and redcurrant aromas, backed by perfumed sweet spice, tobacco leaf, and that classic Margaux floral-edged minerality. Medium to full-bodied, with long and complex finish with a hint of chocolate, mint and fine-grained tannins.
Serving Suggestion: Pairs best with robust dishes such as beef, roast lamb, pork and duck. Mushroom dishes and mature cheeses.
