Domaine Jouan Clos Saint-Denis Grand Cru 2022 is primarily sourced from a tiny, dedicated parcel of old vines (some aged over 75 years) located within the prestigious Clos Saint-Denis Grand Cru in the heart of Morey-Saint-Denis. Philippe Jouan owns only 0.36 hectares of this ''The Pinnacle'' site, celebrated for producing wines of immense class, purity, and feminine grace. This vintage is a blend of 100% Pinot Noir. The estate is managed with a focus on traditional, low-intervention methods, and this cuvée is crafted with meticulous attention to terroir, utilizing 100% de-stemmed fruit and avoiding fining or filtration to preserve its haunting aromatics. It was aged in French oak barrels (approximately 30–50% new) to harmonize its profound depth of minerality with its vibrant, fresh fruit character.

A small domaine of only three and a half hectares, but despite the tiny size and the under-the-radar vibes, these are beautiful wines which inspire great devotion with many faithful customers. There is a simplicity to the wines which often explode with fruit. The wines are all supple and fruity; transparent and pure in the best form of the word. There is a clear house style, but there is a great terroir expression too. Clos St Denis is one of the iconic Grand Crus of the Côte de Nuits. The vines are on average 80 years old, producing supple, powerful and complex wines – amongst the very best of Burgundy.

Tasting Notes:

The nose is perfumed and exuberant, brimming with ripe black cherry, cigar box and exotic wood tones. Flavours of deep blackberry and sweet spice come through on the palate. Supple, and deliciously mouth-filling. A wine which will age beautifully, taking on meaty, gamey notes.

Serving Suggestion:

Pairs best with robust dishes such as roast duck, venison, mushroom gnocchi and cheese dishes.
