Château d'Issan Blason d'Issan Margaux 2022, 6 x 75cl

2022 saw intense climatic moments combined with notably high temperatures during the summer, as well as significantly low rainfall. Flowering began on 16th May, with full flowering on 25th May, while a relatively early veraison started on 6th July. The 2022 harvest started and finished in September-the third time in the history of Château d'Issan that this has happened, alongside 2003 and 2011. The clay subsoils within our historical clos allowed the vines to withstand extreme summer conditions including drought and heat-providing the necessary amount of water to preserve the freshness of the fruit. As a result of the warm conditions, the grapes offer exceptional maturity, in terms of both flavour and phenolics. Established in the 18th century, our precious nature reserve allowed us to maintain balance in the vineyard, with natural trenches providing a regular supply of water, and polyculture land enriching the ecosystem, and in turn, the vines. Inaugurating our new vat room-featuring 16 stainless steel micro-tanks-the selection and vinification of parcels was carried out with even greater accuracy and precision, allowing us to reveal the essence of our different terroirs. Blending took place on 9th January 2023, with the additional expertise of our cenologist, Eric Boissenot. This exceptional vintage can be characterised by intense fruit nuances, balance, depth of aromatics, and definition of tannins, presented in a particularly bright and vibrant colour, with magnificent concentration and refined power. The Cabernets and the Malbec are once again remarkable-giving this new opus a unique signature.

Tasting Notes:

Deep dark ruby garnet colour with opaque core and purple reflections, delicate brightening on the rim. Delicate floral nuances, a hint of purples, dark wild berries in the background, tobacco notes, inviting bouquet. Juicy, elegant, red fruit nuances, fine acidity, mineral and salty finish, a finesse food wine.

Serving Suggestions:
Pairs elegantly with roast duck breast, herb-crusted lamb, mushroom risotto, or aged cheeses such as Comté and Gruyère.
