Product Details

Château La Garde was purchased in June 1990, unable to resist the exceptional quality of the terroir, located in the upper reaches of the appellation, which is arguably one of the finest gravel outcrops in the Pessac-Leognan appellation. In 2021, Château La Garde commissioned a new winery and visitor centre to reflect its ambitious vision. The resolutely modern facilities capture the all-important 'sense of place', but also provide a platform to share the passion for this elegant, authentic and pure Pessac-Leognan fine wine.

Spanning 54 hectares in a single block, the vineyard can be found at the crossroads of several large geological expanses typical of the Pessac-Leognan appellation. Various soil studies have identified up to 27 different soil types across the vineyard. The grapes are harvested selectively by individual plot, and handled with precision care, from the vine to the cellar, preventing oxidation in the white grapes using inert gas or dry ice, and selecting only the finest red grapes using optical sorting. The reds are vinified in stainless-steel tanks, for which the shape, quantity and sizes have been specifically designed to retain the individual character of each batch, before ageing in barrique and amphora for 12-14 months in the underground barrel hall.

Tasting Notes:

Powerful and intensely coloured, well-structured and concentrated, the red wines are ideal for ageing. Round, smooth and alluring, they reflect the elegance and finesse of the terroir, with notes of cedar, black plum and blackcurrant.

Pairing Suggestions:

Pair this red with steak, lamb or duck. Ideal with cheeses such as Camembert and Brie.
