The second wine from Chateau Mouton Rothschild and made from grapes grown on the younger vines in the prestigious First Growth Vineyard, wine has been produced from this Chateau since Roman times. Spanning a huge 90 hectares, a blend of 81% Cabernet Sauvignon, 15% Merlot, 3% Cabernet Franc and 1% Petit Verdot vines planted deep on the edge of the Medoc peninsula, overlooking the Gironde. This Wine is a blend of 72% Cabernet Sauvignon, 24% Merlot and 4% Cabernet Franc.
Tasting Notes:
“This delivers the expected glamour of Petit Mouton, although more reserved than in vintages such as 2015 or 2018. It retains a silk and satin touch to the tannins, and a ton of black cherry puree, spiced cocoa bean, coffee, liquorice root and campfire smoke. Deep, rich and enticing, the tannins are ripe but they have intent - this is a Petit Mouton to age. Think 8 to 10 years minimum. 50% new oak. Harvest September 7 to 24.” Score: 94 - Jane Anson, JaneAnson.com, November 2022
Pairing Suggestions:
Pairs well with roasted red meats, mature cheese and roasted lamb.
