Domaine Jean Monnier & Fils is a 16th-generation winemaking estate established in 1720. The soil is rich in clay and limestone, which provides excellent water retention, a key benefit in a warm vintage like 2022. The wine is typically aged for around 16 months in Burgundian oak barrels with a modest amount of new oak, prioritising purity over heavy wood influence.
Tasting Notes
"Full, fruity, and generous, with juicy acidity and a sumptuous feel... This is from a very old parcel with 70-year-old vines. 'A very rich clay soil, so we use no new oak.'... This combines freshness, power, and subtlety. Pale gold it has a bright lemon, pear, hazelnut and white blossom nose. The palate is impressively powerful and offers good quantities of red apples, pears, melons and citrus." - Tasting Notes: The World of Fine Wine & Winebuyers
Serving Suggestions
Pairs best with fish and seafood or poultry dishes in a creamy sauce. It also pairs well alongside ripe, soft cheeses such as Saint-Marcellin or goats cheese.
