Siepi, owned by Mazzei family since 1435, has always been a model farm, still managed today with the same kind of respect. A unique location, a special microclimate, the foresight in the early 1980s to plant Merlot as the ideal grape to complement Sangiovese in a very particular ''terroir'' produce a wine which is perfectly balanced between elegance, power and complexity. The Location in Fonterutoli - Castellina in Chianti (SI) in Toscana IGT appellation offers Alberese soil; classic, calcareous soil made of compact clay, limestone and marl. The harvest is hand picked starting from 7th September for the Merlot and 21st September for the Sangiovese. The wine is aged for 18 months in french oak barrels and 4 months in concrete tanks.
Tasting Notes:
Crispy notes of elder, plum, berries, sandalwood and tobacco with a very long, bright finish.
Serving Suggestions:
Pairs well with rich, savoury Italian dishes, red meats, aged cheeses and hearty bold flavours.
