Product Details

Domaine Heresztyn-Mazzini Gevrey-Chambertin Vieilles Vignes 2023 is primarily sourced from dedicated parcels of old vines (some aged over 60–70 years) located within the Gevrey-Chambertin appellation in the northern Côte de Nuits. This cuvée represents a blend of several high-quality climates, drawing fruit from specific sites such as Les Jouises and Fourneaux to create a comprehensive expression of the village. This vintage is a blend of 100% Pinot Noir. The estate is managed with organic and biodynamic practices, and this cuvée is crafted with the same meticulous attention to terroir as the domaine's premier cru wines, often utilizing a significant proportion of whole-bunch fermentation (around 50%) to enhance aromatic complexity. It was aged in French oak barrels (typically including roughly 30% new oak) to preserve its fresh, vibrant fruit character while adding a refined structure.

Florence Heresztyn and her husband Simon Mazzini took over the estate from Florence's parents and uncle with the 2012 vintage and have made great progress since then. The wines are now certified organic and biodynamic. This is a fine estate in the very centre of a famous village. Florence's grandfather arrived as an agricultural worker from Poland in the 1930s, and gradually built up the estate. This 'Village Wine' is blended from 5 different parcels located on the northern and western sides of the village. The wine is described as 'Vieilles Vignes' (old vines) as many are over 65 years old. As all wines at this estate, it matures for 15 months in barrels before bottling.

The 2023 vintage of this wine is firm and well-structured, again displaying some beautiful iron-mineral notes, distinctive of its Gevrey Chambertin appellation. Rich black fruit flavours intertwine with peppery spice, backed by some rounded oaky notes This is a wine which will last well for 10 years.
