Chateau Montlandrie Castillon 2022 is primarily sourced from dedicated parcels of vines (averaging over 30 years of age) located within the Castillon Côtes de Bordeaux appellation on the limestone plateau of Saint-Étienne-de-Lisse. This cuvée represents a blend of several high-quality climates, drawing fruit from approximately twelve hectares of vines situated on a magnificent clay-limestone terrace that provides both power and a distinct mineral freshness. This vintage is a blend of 75% Merlot, 20% Cabernet Franc, and 5% Cabernet Sauvignon. The estate is managed with a philosophy of minimal intervention, and this cuvée is crafted with the same meticulous attention to terroir as the late Denis Durantou's iconic Pomerol estates, utilizing gravity-led cellars and precise extraction to preserve the integrity of the fruit. It was aged in French oak barrels (with a moderate proportion of new oak, typically around 40%) to preserve its fresh, vibrant fruit character.

This is one of the great estates of this rising appellation. The Durantou family has had a huge impact on the development of the domaine since Denis purchased the property in 2009, proving that Castillon can rival the best of the Right Bank. Purity and clarity of style are the hallmarks here, with an essence of exuberance, but somehow also restrained fruit showing how Bordeaux can be so intense yet delicate.

Tasting Notes:

A sophisticated and highly aromatic wine, opening with a vibrant bouquet of crushed black cherries, wild plums, and dark chocolate, accented by delicate floral notes of violets. On the palate, it has a silky texture and fine-grained, chalky tannins.

Serving Suggestion:

Pairs best with slow cooked beef, grilled lamb chops, or earthy mushroom risotto. Also complements hard, nutty cheeses such as aged Manchego or Comté.
