Château Batailley is one of the oldest estates in the Médoc and a classic representative of the Pauillac appellation. The 2023 vintage continues its reputation for producing structured, dependable, and ''typical'' Pauillac wines. This 1855 Fifth Growth estate benefits from deep gravel soils, which are ideal for Cabernet Sauvignon. The 2023 vintage is characterized by a blend typically dominated by Cabernet Sauvignon (around 70–75%), supported by Merlot and small amounts of Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot, and is aged in approximately 60% new French oak.
Tasting Notes
''The 2023 Batailley is gorgeous. Pliant and beautifully layered, the 2023 is notable for its mid-palate density and superb balance. Succulent black cherry, plum, licorice, spice, and cedar all take shape in the glass. All the elements are very well-balanced in this stylish, mid-weight Pauillac. There’s plenty of depth and character here. This is a very fine showing from the Castéja family.'' - Score 93-95 - Antonio Galloni, Vinous, Apr 2024
Serving Suggestions
Pairs best with classic meat dishes such as roast leg of lamb with rosemary, grilled entrecôte, wood-fired venison, or earthy mushroom risottos.
