The 2023 Bourgogne Rouge from Domaine Charles Audoin is a standout Burgundy that punch significantly above its weight. While technically a regional Bourgogne AOC, the fruit is largely sourced from old vines (50+ years) located within the village of Marsannay, where the estate is based. Under the guidance of Cyril Audoin, this estate has become a benchmark for ''under-the-radar'' value in the Côte de Nuits, specifically for its organic practices and elegant, low-intervention style. Founded in Marsannay, south of the Burgundy capital of Dijon, in 1972 by Charles Audoin and his wife Marie-Françoise, the Charles Audoin estate covers 14 hectares of vineyards. After harvest, the vinification and aging are done without the use of new oak, to allow the full fruit expression of the Pinot Noir.
Tasting Notes:
There are delicious notes of cherry, strawberry and raspberry jam with hints of violet and mint. The palate is vibrant with acidity, it is medium-bodied with silky tannins. There is a clean and linear finish with a savoury edge.
Serving Suggestion:
Pairs well with classic French bistro, hearty chicken dishes and cheese boards.
