The second wine from Chateau Mouton Rothschild and made from grapes grown on the younger vines in the prestigious First Growth Vineyard, wine has been produced from this Chateau since Roman times. Spanning a huge 90 hectares is a blend of 81% Cabernet Sauvignon, 15% Merlot, 3% Cabernet Franc and 1% Petit Verdot vines planted deep on the egde of the Medoc peninsula, overlooking the Gironde.
Tasting Notes:
“Cool ash and campfire fragrance envelops you from the beginning, followed by dense layers of blackberry, bilberry, cassis, espresso, and cocoa bean. This is easy to love, engaging and charming, although it builds in power and the tannins become pretty chewy through the finish. Harvest September 19 to October 5 (a little earlier that Clerc and Armailhac because Mouton is always an early terroir due to its abundance of pure gravel). 50% new oak.” Score: 94 - Jane Anson, JaneAnson.com, October 2021
Pairing Suggestions:
Pairs well with roasted red meats, mature cheese and roasted lamb.
