Located at one of the highest points of Saint-Emilion, Chateau Laroque’s vineyard stretches across 61 ha of land. Composed of Merlot and Cabernet vines with an average age of over 50 years old, the plateau’s soil is made up of red clays over asteria limestone with east-facing terraces and west-facing slopes of very chalky, fine blueish clays. This wine is a blend of 99% Merlot and 1% Cabernet Franc, and experienced reductive ageing on fine lees partially in barriques and partially in large oak casks. 1st racking after 4 to 6 months ageing. 2nd one year later before bottling.
Tasting Notes:
“There is such incredible balance to this wine, with deftly expressed black and blue fruits, espresso, liquorice and cocoa bean shavings, all delivered slowly but surely through the palate, held in by sculpted tannins, and wet stone texture. This is my biggest upscore from En Primeur - I noted at the time that it was extremely closed, but it is now showing its incredible potential, and is a great value wine. David Suire director, owners Beaumartin family, 61ha of vines.” Score: 95 - Jane Anson, JaneAnson.com, December 2022
Serving Suggestions:
