In 1664, recently graduated master brewer Jérôme Hatt opened his first brewery, Brasserie du Canon, in Strasbourg, an area famous for its brewing heritage. In 1850 the brewery relocated to the village of Kroenbourg, to the west of Strasbourg, where the higher terrain and lower temperatures allowed for the most supreme brewing conditions. Forwarding to 1952, Kronenbourg 1664 was created for the first time using nearly 300 years of brewing knowledge to create the Taste Suprême. It was brought into Britain for the first time ahead of celebrations for the coronation of Queen Elizabeth II in 1953 to the throne of the United Kingdom. This led to it being imported to 68 other countries around the world!
Tasting notes:
A pale yellow beer with a golden hue. Fruity aromas with notes of citrus peel and spices. A fairly dense, long-lasting white creamy head with fine bubbles.
Pairing Notes:
Pairs well with halibut in beer batter and frites.
