Marsannay is just to the north of Gevrey Chambertin, one of the great secrets of the Côte de Nuits. Domaine Charles Audoin, now run by Cyril Audoin, farms 18 hectares in the vineyards around the village. This wine, a blend of four separate parcels, is names after Cyril’s Great Grand Mother, who, widowed during the First War, continued to run the estate single handed. Here is an expressive nose with some complexity. The mouth feel of the middle weight flavours is also relatively supple and round with a bit more size and weight before terminating in a succulent and once again, easy-to-enjoy finish. There are aromas of cherry, raspberry, with fine tannins and a lovely line of acidity.
