Each autumn, a new collection of Special Releases from Diageo lead the way. Every single one is special, introducing a world of flavour, rarity and desire beyond the everyday. Almost all are at cask strength. They include small releases from fabled closed distilleries and supreme examples of the less well known, as well as unusual expressions of more familiar names. Many can only be released in tiny quantities.
This Collectivum XXVIII whisky has layers of flavour and is simply unique. This is the only blended malt composed of whiskies from all twenty-eight active Diageo single malt distilleries. Enjoying real depth, the palate runs all the way from dry and nutty to rich and chocolatey, with zestiness and sweetness; it’s a well-balanced blend of carefully selected tastes that’s refreshing and very easy to drink with a drop of water. With pale, amber hues, there are spicy-sweet and fruity aromas, combining spiky green leaves and dog roses with autumnal forests, toffee and rich vanilla sauce. The greenness comes to dominate, although the sour notes are tempered by sweet brown butter, a slice of candied fruit and floral touches. There is a rounded body and a balance of sweetness on the palate, with a medium finish of buttery pastry, warming spice and a thin layer of sharp fruit.
